More Information On The Practice

Stonyhill Medical Practice serves the area of Blackpool from Bloomfield Road in the north, Park Road to the east, Squires Gate Lane in the south and ending at the Promenade in the west.

Stonyhill Medical Practice is a PMS (Personal Medical Services) practice and has recently merged with St. Mary’s Surgery @ 467 Lytham Road Blackpool.

The two surgeries will be moving into South Shore Primary Care Centre when completed in 2010/11 on Lytham Road (old South Shore Hospital site).

Registered patients can be seen and treated at both sites with the doctor or nurse of their choice.

Our team includes four full-time GPs, one full-time salaried GP, two full-time nurse practitioners, four part-time practice nurses, and two primary health care assistants, we have a treatment room team of nurses, a district nursing team, health visitors, two practice managers, reception staff, data input clerks and two medical secretaries. Both practices also have an in-house pharmacist advisor.

We offer a full general practice service.

Our practice nurses offer specialist clinics for asthma, diabetes and chronic diseases as well as triage facilities and smoking cessation.

Our health care assistant sees all new patients for well person checks and blood pressure monitoring and lifestyle checks.

The community midwife runs antenatal clinics for pregnant women.

Health visitors monitor babies and children, attending to all vaccination needs and are involved in the care of the elderly.

Our GPs offer minor surgery and contraception implants.

The treatment room nursing team treat all minor injuries, attend to dressings, offer ear syringing and holiday vaccinations. (An appointment is sometimes necessary for some types of treatment. If you think you may need an appointment please ring for advice on

At Stonyhill Medical Practice we aim to treat all our patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence.
Stonyhill Medical Practice sometimes has to consent to audit by Blackpool Primary Care Trust. This means doctors from outside our practice may need access to medical or computer records of our patients. Medical records may be used for educational purposes. Because of this, we ask patients registering with us to sign a consent form giving permission for their records to be used in this way. This information is completely confidential and does not leave the practice.

This booklet is for both existing patients and those considering registering with us. It tells you about our services, how to access them and some general information about how our practice operates.

If you live in our practice area and would like to register with us, please complete one of our registration forms that are available from reception or, if available, bring your current medical card. On the form, you will be able to say which practitioner you would prefer to see. However, you will be registering with the practice rather than an individual GP.

You will be given an appointment with one of our nurses for a new patient medical check and a leaflet on the practice prescribing policies, which you will be asked to sign.
